Back pain is common during pregnancy. Injury or strain can result from activities such as work, exercise & repetitive lifting, including looking after babies or toddlers. Low back pain in pregnancy can also be related to the changes occurring to your muscles and ligaments. At Fitwise we use a variety of techniques to help manage back pain, with a strong focus on keeping active and fit. Clinical Pilates is particularly helpful in strengthening the muscles that support the back and neck, as well as for chronic back pain
Pain in your ribs, or at the front of your abdomen, is because your baby is trying to create more space while he/she grows. Your baby pushes up against your diaphragm, which in turn pushes your ribs out of their normal comfort zone. Pain originating from the ribs can be felt in the upper back, sides of the chest or under the breasts.Treatment is available at Fitwise, including symptom relief from "hands-on" therapies, as well as exercises and advice on management.
At Fitwise Physiotherapy we understand that pelvic floor problems can interrupt your ability to enjoy a full active life. Fitwise Physiotherapists ensure private and respectful management solutions are provided for your individual needs. Read More...

Fitwise Physiotherapists are able to assist you with managing this condition during your pregnancy. Options include massage, lymphatic drainage assistance, self-management strategies.
Tingling in your fingers or a burning pain in your hands (especially at night) can be due to Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. You can get this in one or both hands. Swelling in the wrist area creates pressure which causes these symptoms. Management at Fitwise includes massage, ultrasound therapy, wrist splint fitting and advice regarding management .

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a small device that produces light electrical current across your skin which feels like a tingling sensation. The brain focuses on this feeling rather than the pain coming from other parts of your body, such as your contractions, so many women have found TENS to be an effective pain-relief method during labour.
FreeMOM® labour TENS machines are available for hire through Fitwise. Additionally, our physiotherapists can assist you in learning how best to use the machine to help you get the most out of it during labour.
