What is Exercise Physiology?
Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) are university qualified allied health professionals, equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based exercise and lifestyle-based interventions to facilitate and optimise health status, function, recovery and independence.
At Fitwise, our exercise physiologists love to go above and beyond, using clinical evidence and research and in collaboration with other allied health professionals, to provide you with excellent, innovative and fun exercise and lifestyle-based interventions to help you manage your condition and achieve your goals.
AEP's can help treat the following conditions:
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Respiratory/Pulmonary Disease
- Neurological Conditions or Disability (acquired brain injury, autism)
- Musculoskeletal Injuries or pre/rehab (osteoporosis, arthritis)
- Metabolic Disease (diabetes, weight loss, PCOS)
- Cancer Treatment and Recovery
- Mental Health
- Chronic Pain or Fatigue
- Falls and Balance
- General Health and Wellbeing

The benefits of having an AEP tailor a specific individualised program for you include:
- Prevention and/or management of complex chronic conditions
- Improved mental health, wellbeing and self-esteem
- Improved mobility and function and most importantly
- Greater independence to effectively self-manage your condition and to reach your goals
How to Get Started
To provide a highly individualised tailored program, a comprehensive one hour initial assessment will be conducted before commencing any exercise. This session will include an in-depth discussion covering everything from medical history to current exercise and lifestyle practices to your health goals. With the information provided, your AEP will conduct a physical assessment to determine your functional capacity, which will set the baseline for your exercise prescription and establish what lifestyle changes will be needed to achieve your goals.

Together, we will set out a treatment plan that will progress with you throughout your health journey. This may include incorporating other allied health professionals such as dietitians or podiatrists as well as liaising with your referring GP or clinician, to make sure your health team is on the same page and delivering you the best quality service.

What can I expect from the exercise sessions?
During these sessions, your AEP will guide you through select exercises that are tailored to you and your goals, helping you understand and learn the proper technique and how each exercise will benefit you.
Depending on your needs, we offer 30 and 60 minute 1 on 1 sessions or group classes.
