Clinical Pilates

 

What is Clinical Pilates?

Developed by Australian physiotherapists this modification of traditional Pilates focuses on muscle control exercises to strengthen spinal, abdominal and pelvic floor muscles.

 

Results include:

  • improved posture and muscle tone
  • greater flexibility and balance
  • increased resistance to injury and backache
 

These exercises can also be used to treat and prevent:

  • back pain
  • pelvic girdle pain
  • neck, shoulder and arm pain
  • hip and knee pain

 

How does Clinical Pilates work?

Imagine a skyscraper without a good foundation.

Core stability is your body’s foundation, and poor core stability is a major contributor to injury and common problems such as backache.
Our bodies are made up of layers of muscles, from superficial to deep. Conventional exercising, where we work at our maximum rate, predominantly exercises the superficial muscles while overlooking the deep ones.

Clinical Pilates addresses this shortfall and builds the foundation we need by targeting the deep stabilizing back, abdominal and pelvic floor muscles.

 

What classes does Fitwise physiotherapy offer?

The team at Fitwise physiotherapy includes physios with additional postgraduate training in Clinical Pilates.

 

Mat-work classes (max 10 participants)

Specialist classes for:

  • pre & postnatal women
  • older women
  Clinical Pilates - muscle control exercises

 

Clinical Pilates - core stability is your body's foundation

 

Equipment-based classes (max 3 participants)

Specialist classes for:

  • pre & postnatal women
  • older women

 

1-to-1 sessions

Introductory sessions
Required for all new participants for mat-work and equipment-based classes.

Exercise prescription
Following an initial assessment to determine any specific requirements, and to set short and long-term goals, a Fitwise physiotherapist will tailor an individual program to meet your needs.

 

All exercises can be modified to suit your individual needs and fitness level.
