Strengthwise

No body is too old for exercise

 

However, as we get older our exercise needs change.

From about the age of 35 we begin to lose muscle mass and bone density. These losses are associated with decreased

  • flexibility
  • balance
  • mobility

and increased likelihood of falls and fractures.

 

Studies have shown that strengthening exercises – involving the use of weights – may help maintain or even increase bone density

Our Strengthwise classes involve the use of small weights to target and reduce these age-related problems.

As you become fitter, you can progressively increase these weights, ensuring your muscle and bone strength continues to improve.

 

What is Strengthwise?

Strengthwise is a group fitness class designed by Fitwise physiotherapists to meet the specific needs of older women.

All classes are conducted by physiotherapists with postgraduate qualifications and a special interest in exercise for older women.

All exercises can be modified to suit your individual needs and fitness level.

 

An important aspect of Strengthwise is education. Fitwise physiotherapy can provide advice on a range of issues relevant to you; including:

  • pelvic floor and continence management
  • falls prevention and balance
  • minimising the risk of osteoporosis

  • Wear comfortable clothing and runners.
